sal martin

budburst is the creation of Sal Martin.

Sal has experienced profound personal growth through the practice of healing arts which have significantly redefined her life direction. She has a strong yearning to share her wisdom and knowledge with those who wish to follow their bliss and sustain it.

Sal began practising hatha-yoga in 1997 as means to relieve chronic back pain. In 2001 she travelled to India for yoga teacher training with the Sivananda Ashram in Kerala. Sal began teaching dynamic hatha-yoga in Brisbane in 2002 whilst studying Naturopathy at the Australian College of Natural Medicine. In 2004 she began facilitating weekend retreats in the Springbrook hinterland. In 2005 she began consulting as a Naturopath through which she explores the body-mind connection in relation to the healing process. In 2006 & 2007 she ran a yoga studio in the West End whilst consulting from a multi-modality natural therapies clinic in Red Hill.

Sal is currently caretaking Funkey Forest Retreat Centre in the Byron Bay Hinterland, where she facilitates a weekend of grace; a selection of weekend retreats based on yoga and relaxation, how to establish a home yoga practise, and natural cleansing and detoxification.

She is also available to assist on retreats; teaching yoga and meditation, cooking delightful organic vegetarian fare, and providing massage and reflexology treatments.

Sal currently draws inspiration from her teacher, Clive Sheridan, as well as the teachings of Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss (Yoga Synergy in Sydney). She appreciates how, through yoga, we can peel back the layers to reveal our true selves and come to the point where we truly embrace what we see.

In her work, Sal takes a grassroots approach to interacting with clients in a retreat environment, where the opportunity lies to go deeper than a weekly class or consultation.

"Using the ancient practices of yoga, meditation and pranayama, clients are encouraged to heighten their conscious awareness, so as to think more clearly and make decisions that more authentically reflect their inner wisdom".

Time and space is used to allow clients to observe their physical, mental and emotional patterns and then learn to embrace them. From this self-acceptance a natural evolution can take place.

"I faciliate positive transformation. We all flourish when we do what we enjoy best, because we are good at it. We just need to identify these passions and interests; our most authentic and creative offerings, so that we can truly thrive".

And then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was greater than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
